Castles and The Capital of an Empire

The original castle is from the 10th century, but the actual appearance is from the 15th century. It is so well-preserved that you will feel like in time travel.
In one area of the castle it is located the Wine Museum, where you also can taste some local wines.

During the Middle Age, this square was where the people of Peñafiel celebrated their festivals, such as bullfight, and the houses around were the boxes. In our days, this public square, it is a must, with its medieval looking and the interesting wooden boxes.

This is one of the biggest and older Plaza Mayor in Spain, and it has the same name since the 14th century. The Town Hall is located here, in a building from the 19th century. If you like it during the day, you can return at night and see it illuminated, it is gorgeous.

It is one of the oldest universities in Spain, it was founded in 1241! And it is located in an awesome building. It is not possible to visit the inside, but just the outside worth the visit. The baroque facade, from the 18th century, is an art work. It said the legend that if you count the lions on the facade, you will not graduate!

The history of this cathedral is a history of ambition, but fail one! And the building that you can visit in our days is just a part of the original project. That why you will see different artistic stiles.
Inside you are going to visit the cathedral museum, very interesting and with some gorgeous pieces.
The entrance is free, but you can take a guided tour and visit the tower, with amazing views of Valladolid, highly recommended.

A magnificent palace where is located the rectory of Valladolid University and the Arellano Alonso Museum, a private collection of African art. It is a Renaissance style palace from the 15th century. The cluster is amazing.

In the last years of his life, Christopher Columbus, lived in Valladolid, so here you can find a little museum about this explorer. You can learn about his trips and personal story. It is an interactive museum and fascinating!
