Herrenhäuser Gärten
Natural
Welcome to one of the most beautiful garden parks in Europe, which was created by the Electress Sophie from 1676-1714. The Herrenhausen Gardens (Herrenhäuser Gärten) in Lower Saxony are a collection of four unique gardens. They are part of the court gardens surrounding the summer palace of the Elector (and later King) of Hannover. Originally, the garden was designed as a pleasure garden for the royal court.
The Baroque Great Garden (Großer Garten) is symmetric and beautifully kept and is home to a variety of events such as festivals, concerts, firework contests, and theatrical performances. It also contains a grotto which is dedicated to the artist, Niki de Saint Phalle. As you walk in, you come across an incredible work of art which gives you a feeling of joy. Along the figures you see a beautiful decoration on the walls and ceilings from glass mosaic and pebble stones.
The botanical Berggarten contains greenhouses and a Mausoleum for the Hannover family. It also offers a wide range of plants and one of the biggest collections of orchids worldwide.
The English style Georgengarten is home to the Leibniz Temple and the Wilhelm Busch German Museum, which displays Caricature and Critical Graphic Arts. Enjoy the beautiful landscape filled with beautiful flowers, trees, shrubberies, peaceful ponds and ornamental bridges.
In the Welfengarten you find an English landscape and the beautiful Welfenschloss which is housing the University of Hannover.
The Palace was rebuilt in 2013, and it gives home to a small Historical Museum and various events. In the museum, you find out the history and the importance of Hannover from the Baroque era. The gardens are only accessible from the side wings of the Palace, which are linked by an underground corridor.
Admire the green rococo garden, the renaissance flower beds, rare plants, and trees, the largest orchid collection, and the highest fountains. Discover the unique historical hedge theatre and the ballroom which is decorated with fresco from Galerie. Enjoy these features, which makes this place magical and gives an insight of a royal lifestyle.

North from the palace, you arrived at your next destination. Originally, the Berggarten (Mountain Garden) was designed as a herb and kitchen garden in 1666. Electress Sophia began to plant exotic species and from 1750 the place turned into an exclusive botanical garden.
Today, the Berggarten is one of the leading botanical gardens in the world. It gives home for 20000 plants from 3000 different species. The first greenhouse was built in 1686 and gave home to crops such as tobacco, cocoa, and mulberry trees. In its four greenhouses you explore cactuses, tropical plants, and subtropical flora from the Canary Islands. Then go to check out the garden's biggest highlight, which is the Orchid House. It contains the largest collection of orchids in Europe, with its 800 plants from 300 species.
A linden tree-lined avenue has led to the 19th century mausoleum of the Royal House of Hanover. It is the final resting place of Ernst Augustus, his wife Sophia, and their son George I of Great Britain.
Lastly, you'll find the Sea Life Hanover aquarium, which was originally the Great Palm House in the 19th century. It used to hold palms, bananas, monkey puzzle trees, sugar cane and coffee.
Walk around and enjoy the beauties of the nature which filled with majestic trees, plants from all over the world, stone gardens, and water features.

Old Town Hall - Hannover
History
And here you are, standing in the centre of Hannover. You feel you are back in the Middle Ages surrounded with narrow lanes, half-timbered buildings, a neo-Gothic Market Fountain which was built in 1881, the 14th century Marktkirche and the 15th century old late Gothic Old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus).
The oldest secular building was constructed in 1410 and restored after World War II between 1953 and 1964. The part which is facing to the Schmiedestrasse (Blacksmith Street) is from 1410. The wing which was added later is next to the market was built on the foundation of a trade hall from the 13th century. On the Koebelinger Street, you see the Chemists' Wing (Apothekenflügel). It was named after a Town Hall's pharmacy which originally stood here.
The Old Town Hall has many beautiful features such as the impressive gothic gables, the ornamental frieze, and the portraits of the princes and coats-of-arms which features the popular Middle Age game called Luderziehen. In this game, the contestants use their little fingers instead of the rope. Today, a similar game is still part of the folklore in south Germany. It is called Fingerhakeln.
Walk around and enjoy this impressive building.

Ernst August
History
After your visit at the ruins, you are standing at another memorial site at the Ernst-August-Platz. This time it is a statue from Ernest Augustus, who was the King of Hannover. A fascinating aspect of his life is the fact that he was the fifth son of King George III and the uncle of Queen Victoria.
Admire this beautiful creation which features the proud king on horseback dressed in his full hussar finery. It was erected in 1861 and placed on a top of a granite plinth. If you go closer, you see a sentence engraved in it. It says, “Dem Landesvater / Sein treues Volk” (Dedicated to the father of the country, by his faithful people).
